Victor Gao is a Chinese businessman and commentator; and Executive Director of the Beijing Private Equity Association, the principal regulatory body for the private equity industry in China. 

 

Victor’s extensive business and investment banking experience includes positions with Morgan Stanley, PCCW and Henderson Land. From 1999 to 2000 he was the China Policy Advisor with the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. He was also Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Company Secretary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). 

 

Between 1983 and 1989 Victor served with the Chinese Foreign Service in Beijing and the United Nations in New York. He was also English interpreter for the former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. 

 

Victor writes for newspapers and magazines in China and overseas and is regularly interviewed by major news organisations including the BBC, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal. He is Director of the China National Association of International Studies (CNAIS), a think tank affiliated to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
